I’ve decided to set my VPS up as an XRB node. It was a painstaking process, and took a lot of time, mainly due to my lack of Linux/SSH abilities. I’ve brushed up, and learned a lot.
1 Gb of RAM or higher
1 decent vCORE CPU
1-2 TB of bandwidth per month
You can run a node without the above requirements. You’re even running a full node if you use your desktop wallet. But, Rai node uses a lot of memory. My VPS is 850/1024 Mb full, with 93% of the 850 Mb coming directly from the node.
CPU is not that big of a deal. My load average is 0.30, 0.26, 0.14, which means that it’s hardly being used. Bandwidth, on the other hand, is more critical as it can use a lot.
How I installed it
I’ve followed a guide written by Sean Omlor from Medium It took awhile to get it to work. You will have problems if your OS is old and not updated, so be sure you’re using a recent edition. It’s actually quite a simple process.
Why this really matters
If you own any Raiblocks, it is in your best financial interest for the network to be as fast and scalable as possible. Running a node helps contribute to the Raiblocks block lattice. This is the incentive to run a node.
It’s also, additionally, extremely affordable to run a node. I got my VPS for $4 / month. You can find these types of VPS’ quite easily if you search.
I hope you all have a great weekend! I’d like to give a special shout-out to the kind folks on Raiblocks Discord #development for helping me.
